4 tips to help you improve the performance of your Facebook ads during public holidays 🌞

As we approach the much-anticipated bank holiday weekend, many of us are looking forward to some well-deserved relaxation, family fun, and hopefully, plenty of sunshine. While we’re all enjoying the break, it’s essential to remember that our Facebook and Instagram ads might also be taking a bit of a holiday themselves. Let’s dive into why this happens and what you can do to keep your ad strategy on track.

The Bank Holiday / Sunshine Effect on Facebook Ads

During bank holidays (or any sunny weekends!), people’s routines shift. Instead of spending time indoors, scrolling on their devices, they’re out and about, soaking up the rays, attending events, or enjoying a BBQ with family and friends. This change in behaviuor can lead to a noticeable dip in online activity, and consequently, a decrease in the performance of your Facebook ads.

But don’t worry – this is entirely normal and something you can plan for! Here are some tips to help you navigate through this sunny bank holiday weekend without breaking a sweat.

4 Tips For Managing Your Facebook Ads During Public Holidays

1. Adjust Your Budget:

    • Reduce Budgets Temporarily: Consider scaling back your ad budget slightly during these peak periods of reduced scrolling. This prevents you from spending unnecessarily when your audience is less likely to engage. My advice here is to only reduce your budgets by 20% at a time. Any more than this, and your ads will likely go back into learning.
    • Reallocate Spend: If you are a little more advance with running ads, you can shift your budget to times of the day when people are more likely to be indoors and online, such as early mornings and late evenings.
    • Do not turn your ads off: While engagement may be lower, and sales may be slower, people do still scroll during peak holiday periods. If your ads are off, your brand won’t be seen.

    2. Create Engaging Content:

    • Seasonal Relevance: Tailor your ad content to align with bank holiday / public holiday moods. Think sunshine, fun activities, and special offers that resonate with the holiday vibe. Laylo do this brilliantly with their boxed wines.
    • Attention-Grabbing Visuals: Use bright and cheerful imagery to catch the eye of those scrolling through their feeds during their downtime. Have a look at what is trending in the world now – the Instagram Reels page is brilliant for this. Perhaps some B-Roll with a strong USP.
    • Copywriting Gold: Tailor your ad copy to the bank holiday weekend / public holiday / the sunshine. And make sure you grab your reader in the first 2 lines before they have to click ‘See More’ on your copy. If copywritng is something you struggle with, Chat GPT is definitely your friend! And I have done the hard work for you with these Facebook advertising copywriting prompts (I wrote this blog using some of my Chat GPT prompts!)

    3. Monitor and Adapt:

    • Keep an Eye on Your Facebook Ad Performance: Regularly check your ad metrics to see how they are performing throughout the weekend. Metrics to look at include: Link Click Through Rates, Cost Per Clicks, Cost per 1,000 Impressions and of course sales funnel metrics like: Add to Carts, Initiate Checkouts, Cost per Purchase and Purchases. Be ready to make quick adjustments if you notice a significant drop in engagement.
    • Stay Flexible: Be prepared to pivot your strategy if needed. If an ad isn’t performing well, consider pausing it and reallocating the budget to better-performing ad creatives.

    4. Engage with Your Audience:

    • Interactive Organic Posts: Encourage engagement with polls, questions, or fun holiday-themed contests. This can help boost your visibility and keep your audience engaged even during the holiday. And more organic engagement can mean better traction for your Facebook ads – it is a WIN-WIN all round!

    Conclusion

Remember, bank holidays / public holidays are a time for relaxation and enjoyment for everyone, including you! By making a few strategic adjustments mentioned above, you can ensure that your Facebook ads remain effective without feeling overwhelmed by a temporary dip in ad performance.
